Autoversicherung: Geschichte Des Autos: 4. Teil

Trotz der hohen Kosten fanden die Automobile problemlos ihre Käufer. Die Firmen kamen mit ihrer Produktion und den Bestellungen kaum noch nach und zahllose kleine Firmen wurden gegründet, in denen man Autos produzierte. Manche von ihnen nahmen einen kometenhaften Aufstieg.

Das Automobil fand außerdem auch zunehmend gewerblichen Nutzen. Immer mehr Lastwagen rollten aus Fabrikstoren, während Privatautos weiterhin ein Statussymbol der Oberschicht blieben. Wer damals ein Auto fuhr, galt als erfolgreich. Um 1914 gab es in Deutschland bereits rund 55 000 Personen- und 9 000 Lastkraftwagen. Hinzukommend fuhren fast 25 000 Motorräder über die gepflasterten Straßen.

Der aufkommende Kraftfahrzeugverkehr hatte aber auch seine Nachteile. Die „Eroberung der Straße" wurde von den meisten Menschen als lebensgefährlich gesehen. Hermann Glaser schrieb in seinem Buch „Maschinenwelt und Alltagsleben": „Während auf der einen Seite die Automobilisten beim Dahinrasen über die Landstraßen das Triumphgefühl gewaltiger Motorenkraft voll auskosten (die ersten Rennen fanden 1894 und 1895 in Frankreich und England statt), empfindet die Mehrzahl der Bevölkerung Angst und Schrecken vor einer Entwicklung, die ein weiteres Stück Ruhe, Sicherheit und Geborgenheit wegnimmt und damit die allgemeine Nervosität verstärkt."

Zur Zeit transportiert bei uns ein Auto im Durchschnitt 1,3 Personen, und es beansprucht bei einer Geschwindigkeit von 100 Kilometer pro Stunde eine Straßenfläche von 150 Quadratmeter, wobei der Bremsweg und der seitliche Sicherheitsabstand einkalkuliert sind. „Und weil die Statistiker so gerne rechnen, haben sie auch weiterkalkuliert: Wenn sich die Menschheit zahlenmäßig so weiterentwickelt wie derzeit und wenn jeder erwachsene Mensch auf der Welt ein Auto haben soll, dann brauchen wir im Jahre 2050 mehr Straßenfläche, als es feste Erdoberfläche gibt."

So gesehen sind unsere Automobile schon heute zum Aussterben verurteilt. Alexander Spoerl meint, dass man sie bereits als Dinosaurier unserer Zeit betrachten kann. Das sollte man beachten, wenn man an die Anfangstage des Automobilbaus zurückdenkt. Man muss aber natürlich auch zugeben, dass keine technische Entwicklung so viele Impulse für alle Lebensbereiche gegeben hat, wie die Erfindung des Automobils. Unsere Zeitgeschichte wurde dadurch wesentlich beeinflusst. Ohne die Antriebskraft, die im gesamten Automobilbau steckt, wäre die industrielle Entwicklung undenkbar gewesen.
