Can I Afford ARP Medicare Part D Plan?

Posted: Nov 30, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

One of the most popular Part D providers is the Retired Americans (ARP). In fact, the ARP earns more from selling insurance plans than from collecting membership dues from its members.

Don't be surprised that the ARP would be active at selling insurance, the group, after all, was instrumental in the passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act that created Medicare Part D.

The ARP offers its Medicare Part D plans through United Insurance. What the group purports to offer to its members is a no-nonsense solution to its members to help them manage their prescription drug costs. The good thing about these plans is that they are available even to non-ARP members.

There are basically three types of ARP Medicare Part D plans.

ARP MedicareRx Server

The ARP MedicareRx Server has the lowest monthly premium and co-payments and an annual deductible of $275. This plan has in its formulary every brand of prescription drug and generic versions of brand name drugs that are covered under Medicare Part D. This plan also provides access to a network of 60,000 pharmacies.  This plan is ideal for people who do not need too many prescription drugs. This is also ideal for people who believe that their prescription drug needs will not change much in the future.

ARPMedicareRx Preferred

The ARP MedicareRx Preferred plan is one plan that protects its beneficiaries from sudden changes in their prescription drug requirements. The formulary of this drug plan includes 100% of the drugs that are covered by Medicare Part D, which include thousands of prescription drugs both branded and generic. This plan is offered for a mid-range premium. If you go for this plan, you can expect predictable co-payments, no deductible and access to over 60,000 pharmacies.

ARP MedicareRx Savings

The ARP MedicareRx Savings gives additional prescription coverage for Tier 1 generic drugs within the Medicare coverage gap or doughnut hole. This plan's formulary has an expanded list of commonly-used drugs that are not normally covered by Part D plans. When you go for this plan, you can expect access to 100% of drugs that are covered by Medicare Part D, plus an added coverage for Tier 1 generic drugs in the coverage gap (with co-pays). This plan also covers drugs not covered by Medicare Part D, called Bonus Drugs. This plan has predictable co-pays and no deductibles. You also gain access to more than 60,000 pharmacies on the network.
