Life Insurance – Quick Guide to Cheap Policies

Have you noticed there is a growing interest in life insurance, both here in the United States and throughout the world? This is probably due to the increasing awareness of the benefits provided by life insurance, as well as the declining costs from lower mortality rates.  In either case, for all those interested in finding the lowest cost policy meeting their needs, a basic question remains: How does one locate the right policy at the lowest possible cost?

Just about everyone has access to the Internet these days (aka World Wide Web).  But even with the use of the Internet to locate a policy that uniquely meets one’s needs, the task can be very daunting.  In this article we will endeavor to make your search easier.

The first steps in the search process will involve some preparation.  You will need to answer the following simple questions:

  • How much per year can I afford to pay? 5% of annual income is the guideline.
  • What type of coverage will I need?  In order to protect against lost income over your working career, and/or to ensure coverage for any large debt.
  • What type of policy will I need?  Term Life provides pure insurance and is the cheapest, while Whole Life or Universal Life offers investment opportunities.  You might also want to consider a combination of the two.

Your answers to the above questions are critical for locating the right policy to meet your needs both from a financial and emotional standpoint (you should sleep better knowing that you are properly insured with an affordable policy).

Consider for a moment that there are tens of thousands of insurance carriers that are offering hundreds of thousands of insurance plans.  What a daunting task this would be just to become aware of all the available plans.  It would certainly make sense to enlist the help of a licensed, experienced agent in quickly locating a plan that best meets your needs.

How can you accomplish this on the Internet?  It is, actually, surprisingly easy.  All that is needed is for you to search for agent or broker websites by using the following search term: life insurance independent agent.  The results of this search will provide you a list of independent insurance agents.  Independent agents and brokers represent, by definition, multiple insurance carriers.  Through their assistance, you should receive unbiased viewpoints. When you look over the search pages, try to first locate an independent agent directory; this will provide a listing of agents to contact   It’s strongly suggested that you contact a number of independent agents to get a broad list of life insurance plans that will closely meet your needs.

By the way, there should be no charge for this service (by the agent or broker); the agent or broker will be compensated by the insurance company that you eventually select.

There are two big benefits to using an independent insurance agent or broker, as compared to obtaining quotes from individual insurance companies:

  • First, price comparisons will apples-to-apples.  In other words. the agent will select similar plans for comparison.
  • And second, you will receive excellent support in locating plans that address your specific circumstances.  The agent or broker will suggest options/riders that should meet your requirements.

So with the help of the Internet, it should be far easier to locate a life insurance policy that addresses your needs at the cheapest price.
