Listing Types of Insurance

In this day and age insurance is a crucially important matter and it's possible to get insured on almost everything. While this is certainly a good thing, it does mean that the whole concept and multitude of terms can get very confusing when you're first starting out and trying to be conscientious. Below then is a brief explanation of the main forms of insurance and what they cover for those who don't know their contents insurance from their home insurance.

Holiday Insurance: Holiday insurance is a form of insurance that you should take out whenever you plan to go abroad. Generally you'll get the option to include a fairly standard quote when you book your holiday that won't vary much and certainly represents a smart investment. This way if you have to cancel your holiday for whatever reason or lose your luggage you won't be forced to pay for it and add insult to injury.

Health Insurance: Health insurance is a form of insurance that will pay for any medical procedures or equipment that you might need should you injure yourself or become ill. This is only really necessary in countries where hospitals and health services are privately owned, whereas in the UK health insurance is covered by your national insurance contributions.

Car Insurance: Car insurance is a legal requirement in most countries and serves to pay for any damage you should cause to third parties or their vehicles or properties while driving. Quotes vary massively in price depending on your demographic, your record, your vehicle and the company. There are also various different forms of car insurance you can get including: 3rd Party, 3rd Party Fire and Theft and Fully Comprehensive which offer differing types of service but will also affect your quote.

Auto Insurance: Auto insurance or 'vehicle insurance' is a generic term that covers car insurance as well as insurance for van, trucks and other vehicles.

Home Insurance: Home insurance as the name suggests covers your home, though not the items inside. While this can be tricky to define at times, home insurance generally covers permanent fixtures (the structure itself, windows, doors etc) and protects them against criminal damage, fires and floods among other things. A good test is to ask yourself whether an item could be taken with you when you move - if the answer is yes then it won't be covered by home insurance.

Contents Insurance: Contents insurance meanwhile covers everything inside your home. That includes kitchen appliances, jewellery, gadgets, furniture and everything else. This means that should you have a flood that damages your belongings, or should they get stolen, then you're covered.

Life Insurance: Life insurance is slightly different in that it's insuring yourself to make certain that your family is well looked after after you're gone. This will pay them either in a single pay out and/or monthly installments to help them cope with the financial strain of losing you.

Pet Insurance: Essentially health insurance for your animals. If you have a dog or cat this is definitely a wise move as either can wrack up considerable bills from the vet.
