Small Businesses Need Business Insurance

It is important your business is insured so you are covered for any unexpected events that may occur. A business is particularly vulnerable because it provides goods and services to other people, therefore there is the risk that anyone they interact with can make a claim against them. Potential claims can come from customers, members of the public who might not be customers, and employees.

A businesses in the United Kingdom needs to be protected by law for claims made by it’s employees if they are injured or fall ill at work. For example if an employee trips over a piece of equipment that was left out by another employee and injures themselves. The injured employee could make a financial claim against the business because of the injury they had sustained and any financial hardship resulting from it.

Public Liability Insurance is another “must have” cover for most businesses. If your business injures or damages another person or property your business will probably be liable to pay for the cost of the claim. Public Liability Insurance will cover the cost of any claims which could be quite substantial.

As part of your business insurance you may need to have Professional Indemnity Insurance. This insurance is designed for consulting businesses that offer advice to other people or businesses. If the advice a consultant gives is proven to be wrong and has caused their client to suffer financial loss the client could make a claim for the loss.

Professional Indemnity Insurance usually covers the cost of the claim and gives the consulting business peace of mind.

Other additional covers can also be added to a business insurance policy depending on a companies’ business type and the sorts of insurance they might require.
