One of the best ways of shopping for low insurance rates is to first get 2-3 quotes online. Once you have them check with a local insurance agent and ask him to quote you the same. You'll save time and money every time you're looking for let's say... Miami auto insurance rates or just Miami insurance quotes in general.
Most of us love the exhilaration of a fast ride. Just looking at ticket sales for amusement parks, particularly roller coaster rides, can confirm that! But when a driver succumbs to his or her lead foot and breaks the speed limit, a ticket isn't all that might result.
Does Speed Kill?
Speed doesn't kill, careless drivers do. Carelessness doesn't only mean a lack of judgment; it indicates a lack of care for oneself as well as others around them. Unfortunately, when a driver is exceeding the speed limit and crashes their car there is often another car involved as collateral damage.
The faster your vehicle is going, the less time you have to react should an emergency arise. Your reflexes might be fast but if your car is speeding along at 85 MPH, you have much less time to hit the brake than if you were traveling at 55 MPH. Bringing a car to a stop takes a certain distance and the faster you are going, the more distance you need in order to stop. If the weather is not perfectly dry you may also go into an uncontrolled skid when you brake at high speeds.
The Laws of Physics
When a car is traveling 85 MPH, so is the person inside it. If that vehicle suddenly stops, the body inside is still going the same speed. If you're fortunate and have good safety equipment, your seat restraint and airbags will prevent your body from being ejected from the car.
The faster a car is going, the greater the impact. If you happen to hit another car (or it hits you) when you are both driving 55 MPH, the force of the impact will be 110 MPH. If one of the cars is exceeding the speed limit by thirty MPH the force of the impact to both cars is 140 MPH!
If you are fortunate enough to survive a high speed crash with good safety equipment you'll more than likely have upper body bruises from the restraints, facial abrasions and possibly broken nose and cheekbones from the airbag and leg and hip injuries from a front end impact. If the car rolls, you could suffer head injuries and multiple fractures.
Speed Hurts in More Ways than One
Even if you escape uninjured from a high speed crash, your wallet is going to be in intensive care for a few years. A speeding citation can jack up your insurance premiums by as much as 50% for the next few years! If you get a citation that doesn't involve a crash, consider yourself fortunate.
Is it really worth it to speed on a public road or highway? It can be much more fun and safer, too, to go to a public race track and indulge your need for speed. You can even race other people and make new friends. It's safer for you, for other drivers and your wallet will thank you!
