Military insurance (also referred to as forces insurance or army insurance in some quarters) is basically defined as a type of insurance cover designed with the needs of the members of the armed forces in mind. By the very nature of their calling, the insurance needs of the members of armed forces are typically different from those of the members of the general population. After all, insurance is all about risk, and it is an undeniable fact that the average military serviceman or officer is exposed to a much higher level of risk than the average member of the general population. Clearly then, the insurance coverage available for the general population is utterly inadequate for the needs of the members of the armed forces, hence the need for military insurance.
While it is typically not mandatory for the members of the armed forces to take army insurance in many jurisdictions, taking up such army insurance does confer some benefits upon the person taking it, chief among them being something called ‘peace of mind.’
In the case of service life insurance, there is the peace of mind of knowing that should one lose their life in the line of service, their loved ones won’t be exposed to financial distress. Not having such service life insurance on the other hand means that you have to go about your service to the nation with the uncertainty of what could happen to your loved ones (who might include some young children), should the worst befall you. Granted, most governments do provide so sorts of benefits to veteran’s family whose breadwinners lose their lives in the line of duty. But more often than not, such support can be inadequate for a growing family, or slow in coming, hence the need for every army officer or servicemen who cares deeply about their family to take army insurance to supplement the benefits from the government, and support the family as they await for such government aid to materialize.
In the case of personal accident cover, which is one of the most popular types of forces insurance, there is peace of mind to be had in the knowledge of the fact that should some injury befall you in the line of duty (and this is a very real possibility in combat or just in training), then you would have something to give you a soft landing, even as you await for your benefits from the government, which typically take some time being processed.
And in the case of military kit insurance – which is the type of military insurance you are most likely to draw direct benefits from in the course of your service – there is the peace of mind to be had in knowing that should you lose or somehow damage your (typically expensive) military kit, you can have it replaced with ease. Now this might seem like a form of forces insurance you can do without, until it is made clear to you that you won’t be getting your pay for 6 months, as the same will go towards the replacement of your lost military kit. The severe disturbance and of peace of mind that follows such an edict is something you could have avoided by taking military kit insurance, whose monthly cost is usually an amount you can’t even notice on your pay slip.

A Hard Choice-Living With Or Without Health Insurance
By: Ethan Kalvin | 06/01/2010My mother raised me and my siblings alone. As far back as I can remember she worked a full-time job. Sometimes she even worked a second job. We didn't always have everything we wanted, but we didn't go without the things we needed. If we needed to see a doctor or dentist, we did. If we needed medicine we got it. If we had to go to the emergency room we went it. Even an over-night stay at the hospital was never a problem or an issue.

What Types of Military Insurance are Really Necessary?
By: Jane May | 05/06/2009 | InsuranceThe question as to what types of military insurance (also called forces insurance or army insurance in some quarters) are really necessary has been cause for a lot of debate in many officers’ messes. The debate is understandable. Soldiers are, after all, trained to be practical people with an eye for priorities. To be sure, not many modern soldiers would want to expose themselves to the risk of working without any form of forces insurance cover. Yet not many soldiers also, in line with their tra
