Various Figures About Certain Critical Illness Conditions

Figures may confirm that someone somewhere in the UK may contract a critical illness every 2 minutes. Heart attack may be a most likely cause. Surveys may demonstrate that around 75 percent of people may not possess a critical illness cover in the UK. Therefore, a considerable amount of people may be left without any financial help should a critical illness occur. Thus, the cost of possible treatments and care may not be matched.

As per ERC Frankona, one out of every three men may suffer from a critical illness such as heart attack, cancer or stroke before reaching the age of 65. Women may also endure the same fate, the chances being 1 out of every 5 women. Breast cancer may be one of the most common critical illnesses in England and Wales affecting most women. Around 36,000 new cases of breast cancer may have been diagnosed among women in the year 2000. More precisely, 114 out of every 100,000 women may have contracted this critical illness. Subsequently, the death of nearly 11,000 women may have been caused to breast cancer in England and Wales in the year 2002.

Additionally, according to the Office of National Statistics, around 80 percent of women aged between 50-55 may have developped a breast cancer. The high value noticed concerning this critical illness may have been the due to many women tested for the first time. Back during the 1940’s and 1950’s the rate of critical illness among women at that time may have been low. It was not long before the critical illness reached a peak in the year 1980 and then lowered once again in the year 1990. On the other hand, the death pattern among men was the contrary. It rose to the 1970s and then continuously lowered from the 1990s.
Furthermore, another popular critical illness in England and Wales may be the circulatory disease accompanied by heart disease and stroke. Due to this critical illness, death rates among men may have risen more than women. As per the Office of National Statistics, around 312 out of 100,000 men may have passed away due to circulatory disorders in contrast with 194 of every 100,000 women. Other reports may have demonstrated that heart failures may have brought a high death rate among both sexes.

Hence a most in depth analysis was carried out by the Office of National Statistics pointing to the death rates among people of various age categories. They are as follows:

In the year 2002 mortality for people between the age of 15 to 29 resulted from injury and poisoning. That is 0.041 percent for males as compared to 0.01 percent for females based upon a population of 100,000.

Men falling between the ages of 30 to 44 died also as a result of injury and poisoning. That is 0.045 percent based upon a population of 100,000. On the other hand, 0.032 percent of women on a population of 100,000 died due to a critical illness like cancer.

People aged between 45 to 64 suffered mainly from a critical illness, the most dominant being the cancer. 0.245 percent of men upon a population of 100,000 died as compared to 0.218 percent of women over the same population count.

For those people aged between 64 and beyond, the critical illness namely circulatory disease was the main cause of death. People aged 85 or more were more apt to suffer from circulatory diseases along with respiratory diseases and then pass away.

Looking at the figures above, one may at once understand the magnitude at which a specific critical illness affects someone. If you are unfortunate enough, you might also end up entangling into the webs of a critical illness. So it might be wise enough if you are precautious from now on and seek cover from critical illness insurance.

The question has two interesting elements. First, it asked who should be able to see the information. Although it did not ask whether insurance companies, for example, should be able to use results of the genetic tests in deciding coverage or rates, a likely interpretation by many respondents was that having access to the information could lead to some (possibly adverse) action.
