Add a Floor Standing Fountain to Your Remodeling Project

When people remodel or redecorate a room it is usually because they want to take their home design in a new direction. They want to change the way a room has looked for the past few years and turn it into something new.

More and more interior designers and DIY remodelers are adding water fountains to their design. Beautiful floor fountains make a dramatic statement with their classic waterfall sound and shimmering light bouncing off the cascading water.

You too, could add a decorative flair to your home in the form of water fountain. Floor standing fountains add beauty and elegance to a home, indoors and outdoors as decorative pieces or works of art.  They are ideally suited to almost any room as well as decks, gardens, patios or courtyards.

Floor fountains come in all shapes and sizes from small bubbling fountains that are discrete to large impressive fountains that recycle water at a staggering 20 gallons per minute. This type of fountain is found in shopping malls and foyers of large corporations and is not suited for the home.

Look for a floor fountain that will be impressive standing on the floor with enough height to reach at least half way to the ceiling. Many classic designs take center stage and will take up valuable space indoors, these designs are better for a patio.

The fountains design needs to enhance the room without taking up too much space. A great many of the floor standing fountains will fit snugly next to a wall without intruding into the living area.

Floor standing fountains are made from a variety of materials including slate, copper, stone, stainless steel, glass, and much more, the challenge is finding the right fountain for

our home. The material you chose will depend on your  own personal tastes, the decor of your home, your budget and how heavy you want the fountain to be.

Where a floor fountain is placed has a lot to do with how often it should be cleaned. Indoor floor standing fountains usually require less maintenance than their outdoor counterparts do.

Floor standing fountains require very little installation, which is one of their attractions. Many people believe a water source is needed and is one of the reasons they do not pursue installing a fountain.

Water fountains do not need an external water source to function. The water is contained in a reservoir in the base of the fountain and is recycled with the use of an electric pump.

The only utility that needs to be supplied is power. When planning for your water fountain, you will need to have a GFI electrical outlet to power the pump. If you need to have an outlet installed, consider positioning it behind the fountain to hide the power cable.

Floor mounted fountains will usually arrive at your home in kit form. Assembly is an easy task and will be completed in an hour or less.

One of the nicest things about a floor fountain is it can be moved to a new location simply by unplugging from the power outlet.

To summarize,

  1. Choose the area you want to install your fountain
  2. Estimate the size of the fountain based on the location
  3. Decide which material(s) will suit your décor
  4. Select the floor standing fountain of your choice
  5. Assemble and sit back, relax and enjoy.
