Yes, Bamboo flooring is beautiful, green eco friendly and lasts without frequent restoration. But, before you buy there are a few things you need to think about. While this flooring has many pros, there are also many cons. Below are a few of my tips from my experience with installing bamboo flooring for my clients.
1. Be prepared to pay a higher price for this flooring. Fact - Bamboo flooring can cost much more than brazillian hardwoods or manufactured flooring like the low cost options at IKEA stores. If you want this luxury product, check for pricing and companys who stand behind there product. There are a few bamboo flooring vendors who have offered this product from its conception. Look at their options first. For a list of those vendors, please contact our design offices at 646-415-8110.
2. You should be prepared to search for a qualified installer for these floors. Fact - Not all floor installers are good at installing bamboo floors. These floors need a maticulous installer to get the professional luxury designer look you are after. So, I don't recommend trying to save money on the installation. You can still get a fair price, but you need to go with the installer with the most experience, not the lowest price. If you are spending money on these floors, don't start cutting corners during the process. If you can't afford it, choose another type of flooring.
3. Do you like to wear shoes around the house? Fact - Most vendors will tell you about how strong bamboo floorings are and how long this product will last. Those facts are both true, but they are not telling you that unlike other natural wood flooring, you will not be able to buff or sand out the deep cuts, scrapes and marks that occur from normal wear and tear. If you don't already take off your shoes at the door, get ready to change your lifestyle. You need to keep the pets, kids toys and your party guests pumps and wingtips off this luxury flooring. You will notice over time that this floor does get little dents and gashes. Yes, I used the word gash, as in deep visible dents. But, if you buy a BMW or Mercedes you won't park it under a walnut tree or even outside period. You would park your car in a garage and most people even use a car cover. The same thing goes for Bamboo floors. Protect them, clean them and they will shine for you for years to come.
4. Be prepared for friends and family to be envious. Fact - Bamboo floors are so beautiful and luxurious that all your family and friends will envy you for installing them. These floors come in a vast array of colors and styles. They are claiming to be the most eco-friendly of your flooring choices. They are fairly easy to clean and care for. They will add such a wonderful designer addition to the style of your home. Be sure to ask for help picking the style and color suitable for your new look. Our designers are here for you if you need help with that. You can even email us on facebook at Kinnaird Designs & Interiors or visit our website at kdandi.com.
5. Enjoy Your New Floors Fact - A dinner on the floor with candle light can be very special even if you are all alone with your new home or your passioante lover, best friend or better half. Surprise them once your floor are installed with a nice gormet dinner close to the floor with canldes all around. Bamboo Floors also add a bit of passion to any home. Have Fun and Enjoy!
