Bamboo Basics
There are more than 1500 species of bamboo worldwide. The species most commonly used for textiles is Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys Pubescens), which grows primarily in large areas of eastern China.
Bamboo is a woody grass that grows extremely fast – some species up to four feet a day. Much like your lawn, after cutting, it will grow back with no need to replant. Bamboo thrives without pesticides or fertilizers due to its unique antimicrobial property (called Bamboo Kun). It does not require irrigation, and can survive periods of drought. Bamboo produces 30% more oxygen, and takes in more carbon dioxide than an equivalent stand of trees. It is also an excellent inhibitor of soil erosion.
