Choosing Small Space Decor

Small spaces, small houses, small apartments; we all live and work in some of them, either because we cannot afford something bigger, or because we want to downsize especially when alone. There are also those people who prefer a smaller space, because it's cozier, warmer, easier and far more practical.

In the case of small spaces, though, there are several compromises to be made, several adjustments to take place, in order to ensure comfortable living. Small spaces décor can be a rather hard job, because possible wrong choices can make a small space feel and look cramped.

If looking to create a small, intimate and convenient space, you need to make the proper choices. Soft pieces, in mild and friendly tones, warm and dramatic lighting can create a rather private but very cozy space. If you are into something more open, that will leave your house breathing, creating the feeling of a larger space, even if all walls are at their place, then adding some color and arranging the furniture is needed. There are multi- purpose furnishings that allow you to take advantage of walls or open spaces and floors; interior and hidden storage spaces, small details that can save space, usually make a huge difference.

Small space décor requires moving furniture away, and creating space can change the setting dramatically. Space behind the doors, under the bed, use of futons and sofas, use of space under the stairs, wall surfaces, everything counts when it comes to small places. Avoid contrasting colors that break up the space and give the impression of smaller space; avoid furniture that interrupts, and choose pieces that blend with the surrounding and complement the space and the existing design.

Following simple rules and avoiding bulky furnishings, you can create a less cramped and very intimate space that suits your needs.
