Clever Suggestions That You Might Want to Make Use of for Your Basement

----------
Ask several persons what’s in their basement and you’ll receive a wide range of answers: a storage room, a game room, a home theater, a bedroom. The basement is one of the most versatile areas of your home, lending itself easily to remodeling, furnishing, and nearly every application you may think of. If you need an area for your book collection or a spare room for your visitors, your basement will usually be one of your best bets. Here are some other suggestions for maximizing the use of your basement.

Library

The basement makes a good reading room because of its quiet, private area. Tucked away from the rest of the house, you can enjoy your chosen books in peace while still being close enough in case you are needed upstairs. Put your bookshelves in the middle of the room so the books do not get too exposed to the sun. Light is almost always limited in the basement, so make sure to plan out your light fixtures carefully. Match strong task lighting with subdued ambient lights in the reading areas.

Entertainment room

The home theater or entertainment room is one of the most popular home basement uses. It would be quite easy to bring about the dimmed lighting used in professional theaters, and making the room soundproof takes no time since it is well-secluded to begin with. Make certain to arrange the wiring—you do not want a chaos of wires hanging down the ceiling as you are viewing your favorite flick. Have them run over the walls or under the floor, and camouflage them with carpeting or paint.

Wine cellar

If you’re an avid wine collector, you want something bigger than a shelf to store all your bottles. With a basement, you can have a whole room all to yourself! Basements provide the dry, cool environment needed to keep wines at their best. The temperature must not fluctuate too much, so keep it regulated by covering up large windows and installing even, fixed lighting. Maintain the temperature within 48o to 56o F; if you live in a place with hot climate, consider buying an air conditioner.

Home gym

Privacy and space are the prime reasons persons put off getting a home gym. What is the point of getting all that equipment if you have no place to put it? If your basement is big enough, you may change it into a personal gym and fitness area. Whether you have just one treadmill or lots of fitness arsenal, you may easily put it into your basement’s floor space. Just make certain that there is enough ventilation, though—utilize all your windows or try to install new ones to let more air come in.

Family room

The living room may be a cool area to hang out, but most individuals treat it more like a display room for their visitors. A separate family room will allow you and your kids to engage in different activities without having to think much about causing disarray on the carpet, hitting the shelves, or destroying the decorations. If you have little kids, get a floor with a carpet or rug to serve as a play area. Make use of sturdy, low-cost materials such as metal and plastic, and stay away brittle ones like wood and glass.

Personal space

Sometimes you might want to get away from it all and get some alone time. That is where a personal area becomes handy. Your personal space is where you can bask in all the things you like, do whatever you feel like, and simply be yourself. The basement provides you just the perfect amount of privacy for such an area, without shutting you off completely from the other parts of the house.
