Great Wall of Decor and Art - Simple Ideas and Tips

Many people take wall art and decor for granted, probably because they do not know the things that these wonderful pieces of decorative ornaments can do for their homes. Some people may not be aware that an exquisite wall art can transform a dull room into something that exudes elegance and style. The truth is, hanging wall art in your home is one of the best ways of brightening up and giving life to any space in your house.

There are many great ideas and tips on how to decorate creatively with wall art. To help you get started, here are some of them:

1. Know your options
Wall art comes in a wide variety of kinds, styles and materials. Some of your options include photographs, paintings, and sculptures.

- Sculptures -- two-dimensional sculptures are great to use as wall decors. When choosing a sculpture, it is smart to have one that is complementary to the design and function of the room. For example, it would make sense to put a musical notes wall decor sculpture in the music room and not in the kitchen.

- Pictures -- photos of loved ones, family members, trips you have gone to, occasions you celebrate or landscapes and scenery. It is a great idea if you can have these photos enlarged and framed. Make sure that the design of the frame complements the overall design of the room and that the subject of the photo fits the room where you plan to hang it.

- Paintings -- the three main factors to consider when choosing paintings are the size, color, and subject. Make sure that these three elements match the function and theme of the room where you want to place it.

2. Plan how you will hang your wall decor
There are several ways on how you can effectively hang your pieces of wall decor in such a way that they will not appear cluttered or chaotic. For one, you have the option of placing the artwork on top of the focal point of the room.

For example, for the music room, you can place the musical notes wall decor above the piano, a sports wall art on top of the sports trophy case or a family portrait above the bed. Just make sure that you secure the wall art properly so that you do not wake up one day with a bump on your head. Aside from that, you can also achieve a modern gallery look by placing paintings or sculptures on an empty hallway, lobby or along the stairway.

3. Make your own wall art
If you want to experiment or express your creativity, you can make your own wall art by making a two-dimensional clay sculpture or a painting. This not only enables you to have personalized wall décor but also allows you to save money.

Wall art and decorations are great to have in your home. Make sure that you invest on these decorative pieces properly by knowing your options, hanging them correctly and considering making your own.
