How to Design a Victorian Bathroom

A popular idea for many homeowners these days is to take on home improvement projects to make their homes a little nicer rather than relocating to a newer house. Many homeowners like to go with a theme for rooms when they are remodeling, such as a Victorian bathroom or a 1950’s kitchen. If you are thinking of going with that old fashioned clawfoot tub bathroom idea, here are a couple ideas to create a wash room that takes you back to another time.

1.  Get a new bathroom vanity that reflects the period. If you have a modern bathroom vanity with Victorian accents and decorations, it won’t really work. You need to complete the transformation with a bathroom vanity that has an antique style, like a raised white porcelain sink with a rich mahogany cabinet base. The bathroom vanity is one of 3 major bathroom fixtures that decide the décor of the room, so find an antique vanity that you love and match your toilet and bathtub with it to completely makeover your modern bathroom.

2.  Find a fitting footed bath tub. The first thing you want to do with any bathroom remodel is measure your space so you know what will fit. Once you know the vanity that will fit in your space, you can move onto the next important fixture, the bathtub. To make your Victorian bathroom authentic, you will want to find a beautiful footed bath tub to bathe in. Clawfoot tubs are a charming and beautiful part of any old-fashioned bathroom, and you will love the way it starts to bring your design idea to life.

3.  Get an old fashioned style toilet. Because of the demand, many manufacturers still produce Victorian style toilets, which are generally designed with a high tank and a pull chain with a decorative accent on the end. There are low tank Victorian toilets as well if that is more your taste, but no matter which one you choose, the old fashioned style toilet will give you the bathroom fixture design tri-fecta that really takes you back in time and transforms your modern bathroom into an old fashioned one, with a beautiful antique bathtub centerpiece.

Once you have the three matching major fixtures installed, you only need to worry about the details. You can paint or put up that flowery old fashioned wallpaper, and invest in a few accents that complete the Victorian look. Good luck!
