This article will give a brief walk through the 3 most popular ways to hang Canvas Art on your wall. There all relatively cheap and easy to get hold.
Mirror Plates mounted to the inside of the canvas frame
Mirror plates mounted to the outside of the canvas frame
Mirror Plates
Mirror plates are a simple yet effective way to hang your canvas art. As you can see from the above pictures, you can attach the mirror plates so they either mount on the inside or outside and there are pro's and con's to both these methods.
Mounting on the inside means you don't see the mirror plates but also means that instead of screwing the plate to the wall as well as the canvas, your just dropping the canvas onto the screws and therefore there not 100% stable.
Mounting on the outside has the opposite effect. You can see the mirror plates (which is not to every ones taste) but because you can secure the canvas to wall its a common route to take.
Mirror plates are very cheap (Wicks in the UK sells a pack of 8 for 89p) and easy to get hold of making them the most popular method to hang a canvas.
Canvas Shown With Wire Hanging Method
Wire
One of the oldest way to hang any art is to simply attach a piece of tightened wire to the back of the canvas frame and simply drop the wire onto a screw slightly sticking out of the wall. Very cheap (wire is pence) and easy to do, the wire method has its plus points, but the biggest drawback is the movement available to the canvas. You'll be forever straightening your canvas out and I'd recommend mirror plates to conquer this.
3M Command Strip
3M Command Strip
For the past few months we've been putting the 3M Command Strip system to the test and have to admit to being very impressed with the system. The simple to use hooks and glue patches hang in seconds and last for ages. The best bit about these hooks is when you come to remove them, the glue strip peels away and leaves marks on your walls making them perfect for people living in rented accommodation.
Conclusion
There are many ways to hang a canvas up, but after using all the above methods, I'd personally recommend the use of the Command Strips. There easy to put up (no drilling required) and very easy to take down. Go for the 3kg Bathroom hooks to make sure of no accidents to your canvas. (approx £3 for 2)
