We always think that small places just mean less mess and more adjustments. But once we start to rack our brains in making small adjustments, it becomes a nerve breaking situation. It is a great challenge to adjust everything in a small area. But ironically, small spaces are the greatest gift we can ever have. But how? Read on more to unveil the tips.
Step 1: Get Rid of the Excess
Closets need to be cleaned every once in a while. Plan a closet alteration by measuring your closet to decide your hanging requirements and storage needs. Next, you will have to clear everything out of the closet so the new organization plan can be worked out. This is a good time to go through items that may no longer be used and donate them to charity. Another good reason to donate something!
Step 2: Double Your Space
To make more storage place, you can double the closet rods one above the other. This will give you more space to store more clothes. Be sure to have proper distance between the two rods as you might hang clothes like blouses, shirts, skirts, jackets, and kids' clothes will all fit on double rods. Also, do not forget to add an extra six inch gap incase you might hang anything longer.
Step 3: Filling In the Narrow Spaces
Narrow spaces in your closets are not useless as you might think. But on the contrary, you can hammer in a few nails and hang in your purses and bags. You might just wonder, but it fits in beautifully.
Step 4: Temporary Closet
Well, if you think that you will not be able to afford a complete closet make over or it will not be a very economical move on your part, then you are reading the right point. With the help of a few adjustable fittings and drapes, you can build a temporary closet to fit your necessity. This will surely not make a hole in your pocket and will look good too.
Step 5: Include a Mirror
If your closet provides you with a proportionate dressing area, make it more useful by hanging a large mirror on a wall or door. Floor-length mirrors are preferable, especially for women.
Step 6: Plan for Small Items
Create narrow drawers that will fill up themselves with your most treasured items like jewelry, socks, scarves, etc. Narrow drawers should be further outfitted with divider trays to keep things orderly.
Step 7: Utilize Every Inch and Corner
May you have a high ceiling or a cramped attic dormer, make use of every inch. Do not spare even a centimeter of space. Even when double rods aren't possible, you can fill the area with drawer units, shelves, or shoe cubbies.
Step 8: Make It DUST FREE
The more you allow dust to enter in your closet, the more your efforts for keeping clothes clean go down the drain. Cabinets with doors are terrific but are the most expensive solution. Clear or canvas hanging bags designed to hold multiple garments are a budget-friendly alternative.
