When you think of porcelain, what normally comes to mind? A cold, sleek stone tile used in making sinks, toilets, perhaps even bathtubs and shower stalls. Do you think of warmth, of loveliness, of a stunning décor? Probably not, but that is a bit of a misunderstanding when it comes to porcelain flooring. Although porcelain has a bad reputation as being cold and uninviting as a freezing toilet seat on a February morning, it can pose as an excellent flooring option for many areas of your home.

Entryway

The entryway is a perfect area in your home for porcelain flooring. Not only is it an inviting way to come into the home, but it keeps the things that first come into the house with you in the entryway and not on the carpet, keeping your expensive carpet all that much cleaner in the end. Porcelain flooring will help to keep your entryway cool in the summertime and mild in the winter time, so as not to freeze your toes should you walk through without stockings or shoes on.

Bathroom

Obviously, porcelain as a building material is notorious for its use in bathrooms but it also serves well as a bathroom floor as well. Porcelain is very cost effective as far as heat and air conditioning efficiency goes so you won't have to worry about freezing up in the bathroom or burning your feet up on a hot bathroom floor.

Basement

If you are looking for an elegant flooring option for a finished basement, porcelain serves very well. It does not make the room like just another room in the house by adding carpet, and it keeps the basement feel with the harder stone floor. At the same time, porcelain flooring can add an austerity and elegance to any basement floor, making it perfect for entertainment, play time, work, or even just storage.

You know what your basement floor looks like as of right now. There may be some kind of carpeting down there if you are lucky, but it can't be all that nice or you might not even be considering porcelain flooring. Then again, many basements have cold stone floors or wooden floors in need of repair and porcelain tiling is an excellent and cost effective option for basement flooring.

Kitchen

Vinyl and laminate seem to be the most common options for flooring in American kitchens but often time's porcelain is a better option that many people fail to consider. Porcelain tiling can come in just about any style or to match any décor, making it perfect for kitchens with themes.

Porcelain beats linoleum any day, and it is definitely a great deal more long lasting and elegant than 70s style linoleum, some of which may be peeling off of your kitchen floor at this very minute. Porcelain flooring is designed to withstand a lot and outlast everything else.

Sunrooms

Porcelain tiling is also a rather sensible option for a sunroom floor as well. Carpet is certainly not the type of flooring that you would want in a room designated just for sun and relaxation but porcelain flooring is perfect and provides just the visual cooling effect that a sunroom needs.

As you can see, there are many different rooms that could benefit from porcelain tiling, but outside of all this porcelain flooring does have one, rather glaring and outstanding advantage—it is a very cost effective alternative to more expensive hard flooring. Also, porcelain tiling is more easily customized to fit a particular taste than many other options you have ahead of you as far as flooring of this type goes.

You can purchase porcelain flooring at any home improvement store, or you can order it at many venues on the World Wide Web, and have it delivered to your door. Each tile is a certain size and depending on the size of the room you are looking to tile, you may need more or less tiling making it a more or less expensive job.

Check out the various styles of porcelain flooring for your home and see the difference porcelain can make in a room in your home.
