The Working Principle Behind a Light Bulb

But in dark peoples make use of the candles or the il lamp but still use of these product was not the efficient source it had lot of drawbacks. Hence to overcome these problems two scientist namely Thomas Edison and Joseph swan invented the technology of the light bulbs in around 1800s.

Uses of the bulbs were the easy technology than the other stuffs of candles and the oil lamps. Therefore they improve the old ways. The bulbs in these days do not varied dramatically from the old bulbs.

The basic principle of light is that; light is the kind of emission of the energy from the atom. Light is released by the atom when electron comes from the excited state to the normal state. Particular position of the electron will decide the intensity of the light. This intensity will give the wavelength. Different wavelength will give different colors like red, yellow, blue or green.

The light bulbs have the simple structure in which there are two metal contacts. These metal contacts are connected to the end of the electric circuit. These metal contacts are then attached with two stiff wires having connection with the thin filament. This filament is placed in the middle of the bulb, which is attached with the glass mount. The cavity in the bulb is filled with the inert gas like Argon.

When we switch on the power supply of the bulb at that time the current will flow through that filament and as this is the thin wounded filament; the temperature of this will goes on increasing which will excite the electrons in the atom. These excited electrons will now try to come at the normal state by emitting the light photons.

In this manner the normal light bulb will work and provides us of light. If we look towards the function of the filament it needs lots of temperature to emit the light. But generally all the metals will melt till this temperature and will be liquid. To avoid such a situation while making the bulb special material has to be considered to avoid problems. In this case use of the Tungsten filament is beneficial. The melting point of the tungsten is very high and hence they will stand in the high temperature and will be useful in the light bulbs.

This is the simple working of any light bulb which we use in day to day life. According to the functionality we will find different types of the light bulbs.
