Three Indoor Fountain Types

Over the years, interior design has evolved from a specialist field into something everyone wants to use to beautify their households. Meanwhile, indoor fountains have become easier and less expensive to incorporate – but people’s knowledge of indoor water fountains doesn’t always match their availability. That’s why we’ve written this article. As an indoor fountain vendor, it’s in our interest here at Serenity Health to tell you about the differences between the water fountains available in our catalog. Below are three indoor fountain types, along with suggestions on where they fit in your décor plans.

Tabletop Indoor Fountains

Tabletop indoor fountains are the most versatile type. They include fountains of various sizes and designs, ranging from small desk decorations to large indoor fountains that still fit on a table.

There are three main design trends in tabletop indoor fountains. One is minimalism through designs inspired by modern design and architecture or the Zen aesthetic.

The second is the influence of Feng Shui and Asian-inspired designed. Feng Shui is a very important influence in indoor fountains as a whole. It’s China’s traditional art of design harmony and as such, contains various prescriptions on where to place furniture and decorations – especially fountains, which, when placed correctly symbolize prosperity. Other Asian-inspired designs include the Zen minimalism we described earlier, and designs incorporating koi fish sculpture, pagoda-inspired shapes and other aspects inspired by Asian cultures.

The third influence is European rustic designs. These are a mix of Old World styles and rustic standards, such as designs inspired by Venetian cisterns, barrels and motifs like angels and the popular Green Man.

Indoor Wall Fountains

The next popular indoor fountain design is the wall fountain. Wall fountains have several advantages. First of all, they’re available in a huge number of styles and price ranges, allowing you to easily pick the type that best fits your budget and décor. Second, they’re the most space efficient design around. They make use of more vertical space than horizontal, so you only have to do a minimum of rearranging to fit one into virtually any room in the house.

Due to a wall fountain’s shape, its materials exert a powerful influence on the impression it makes and how it related to the surrounding décor. Many wall fountains are minimalist in design, letting the color and material stand out more. For that reason, wall fountains are available in everything from a pottery glaze style to stainless steel, copper and slate. Glass is also a popular backing material for the wall fountain’s water to run along.

Indoor Floor Fountains

Floor fountains are the most dramatic form of indoor water fountain presented in this article. Consequently, these fountains require the most thought and budget commitment to use, but no other style of indoor fountain is quite as impressive. Floor fountains are named for the fact that the water flows right to floor level, into a basin or small slot that directs the water back to the pump.

Floor fountains come in a variety of styles. Some of the most popular are ceiling to floor water walls rendered in a number of materials, including glass, steel, copper and slate. This is ideal for homes with a modern minimalist design aesthetic. If your tastes run to antiques and Old World elegance you can still incorporate this design in copper and slate, but as an alternative, consider the urn or olive jar styles. These fountains are sculpted to appear like Classical glazed pottery. The water flows over it and into the cistern. Sculpted designs in a variety of materials can emulate decorative trellises and garden designs that still fit our interior.
