Transitional Rugs

There are those people who prefer modern décor and those that prefer traditional elegance. On the other hand, there are those people who tend to go in between both extremes and opt for the transitional style. What is transitional style? And how does it differ from the modern trends and the conventional designs?

From the word it self, that also means intermediary or in the middle, transitional style is a mixture of both contemporary vogues and conventional styles. Transitional styles are usually free-patterned and playful. It is less lavish than the traditional styles but not as simple and plain as the present-day designs. This kind of style is carried on to area rugs as well.

Transitional rugs are a mixture of oriental and contemporary area rugs. And since it is a combination of the two radicals, transitional rugs covers a more extensive collection of patterns, colors, designs, and sizes; from minimal to intricate designs to a more detailed or subtle style. Thus, allowing one to be able to find a suitable area rug to add harmony and balance to any room depending on one’s preference.

With its flexible, elegant and diverse quality, Transitional area rugs are most likely to match and complement any existing room décor and furnishings especially because of the wide varieties to choose from and its fusion of both old and new, past and present, former and recent. And since there is a mishmash selection available, from Oriental designs to the up-to-date classy trends, it is most likely that one have a hard time choosing a rug that corresponds to their liking. The solution is to reduce your options to one rug characteristic at a time. Consider every aspect there is. Know what design you want, whether you are trying to follow a certain motif or theme; and then proceed to selecting the size and the color of preference. And Voila!

Patterns used for transitional rugs are usually floral. But there are people who aren’t really fans of flower and plant motifs with a European twist so they go for the botanical designed rugs instead. Flowers and plants usually seen in floral rugs are cherry blossoms, lush ferns and other Asian flowers such as orchids and peonies.

Area rugs with transitional designs not only provide warmth but also comfort and practicality. Transitional rugs, since they are in the middle of two extremes, are less expensive than the Oriental rugs such as Persian rugs and Turkish rugs, but still giving it a touch of the antique quality that a genuine European rug provides. This is an advantage for people who would like a European motif and prefer it to have a modern twist.

Transitional styles, being the midway of both modern and conventional designs, are results of changes in personal preferences and choices. People that opt for this type of designs prefer the mixture of both radicals. Hence, area rugs that are transitional are blends of both intricate European styles and simple contemporary designs. Transitional rugs, in effect create a more warm yet luxurious allure.
