As an alternative to curtains window blinds can be used to add the perfect finish to any room. If you are thinking about installing window blinds in your home you have a great amount of choice. There are many different types of window blind available to buy so how do you know which to choose? The most common types of window blind are as follows -

Venetian Blinds

Venetian Blinds are one of the most familiar types of window blind. Characteristically venetian blinds have horizontal slats that are arranged one above another and operate in unison. The slats are connected with string that allows the blinds to be rotated 180 degrees and to be raised up and down. This gives the user a high amount of control over the amount of sunlight they want to allow into the room. Venetian blinds can be made from a variety of materials including wood and aluminium.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are a popular choice in both homes and offices. They are particularly well suited for large windows such as patio doors or in conservatories. In this style of blind the slats are arranged vertically. Similar to venetian blinds the slats can be rotated 180 degrees to allow varying amounts of sunlight through. Vertical blinds can also operate like curtains to be fully opened or closed.

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds differ from venetian and vertical blinds in that they are made from a single piece of fabric. They are commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms although they are suited to most types of windows. Operating a roman blind is a simple case of using the controls to move the blind up and down so that it covers as much or as little of the window as you want. Since roman blinds are made from a single piece of fabric there is room for a great deal of variety in their design.

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are similar in design to roman blinds. Made from a single piece of fabric they are perfect for when you want to add a decorative finish to a room. Roller blinds are versatile and have a number of functions.  Not only will they give you full control over the amount of sunlight entering your room but they also serve as effective draft excluders helping to keep your home warm in the winter months.
