Antlers are found in different qualities that are categorized like rare coins. The best quality is awarded an "A" grade. The grading system, indirectly, has to do with the length of time the sheds lie outdoors before found. The more time they are left in the wild, the more they break down. New antler sheds are a darker brown color. Sheds that are not found quickly will start to bleach in the sun until they become a chalky white. Another factor they loose their quality is because of chew marks from small animals and stains from wet ground or moss.

Others may fasten them together with a rawhide thong for a rustic Indian look. And some of the most attractive antler lamps may use a combination of being glued, drilled and screwed together, with the holes closed up for a natural look. High end lamps will almost always include rawhide lamp shades.

My son is an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Safford, AZ. Four years ago he was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his lower back. Since then he was transferred to LaTuna in El Paso and there he was to have surgery to correct the herniation. He is now back in Safford where he has had an MRI which backs up the original diagnosis. He now awaits a neurological consult prior to surgery. The medical administrator, Ms. Garrett, told me that although the surgery has been ok'd my son must wait until 2009 for the consult and procedure. This is outrageous! My family, and our attorney, believe this constitutes cruel and unusual punishment! My son is in a tremendous amount of pain. He is worried that if this is not corrected soon, further damage may occur - he needs to be in one piece when he is released in order to work. Can you please help? Thank you very much.
