The black and white ambiance created by this decorating method can be added to via a few black and white photographs or oil paintings in tastefully chosen frames. The use of color will only work in select rooms with select wall hangings. Muted colors will work better in most instances than strong colors, unless you choose to go with a strong primary color, such as red.

One of the newer crazes in wrought iron wall hangings involves the use of candles in the hanging itself. For these to work, and they can be beautiful when they work well, the hanging must be absolutely straight. The smallest deviation to the left or the right will cause the candle wax to run off to one side instead of burning straight down. This can create a phenomenal mess is left unsupervised for a period of time, which is also a fire hazard.

Metal wall hangings can be found in many antique or specialty shops, including those online. The ones available from large chain stores are not going to be unique, and with the increase in their popularity, uniqueness is going to be the key to designing a room around the wall hanging. Their dark against light design makes them a stand alone piece, and the room can then fall in line under the hanging. Using bold, simple themes to accent the wall hangings will prevent the room from becoming dominated by busy abstract visual noise.

Metal wall hangings can make an excellent and simple accent for the white walls of a hallway or stair case. These accent pieces can bring out the simplicity of the white wall in a tasteful and beautiful statement.
