Lope De Aguirre - the Mad Conquistador of the Amazon

Lope de Aguirre was an conquistador that travelled in the Amazon in the 16th century, distributing havoc and terror. He murdered the expedition leader and his replacement, revolted against the King of Spain and died trying to conquer parts of Spanish America. In a famous movie, Werner Herzog depicts this infamous character in a brilliant way.
Francisco De Orellana - the First Amazon River Explorer

Francisco de Orellana was a 16th century Spanish conquistador of the Americas. He is most famous for being the first European to explore the Amazon river, descending it from present-day Ecuador to the Atlantic. During his voyage, he encountered a sophisticated Indian society, which the archeological record begins to reveal. He died in the Amazon, in his second expedition, never having found his dreamed El Dorado.
