4 Common Marketing Mistakes Online and How To Avoid Them

There are so many ways to market a product on the Internet that many people never become good at any of them. This leads to marketing mistakes that can be avoided. In this short article we will take a look at four common marketing mistakes and how you can avoid making them.

1. Lack of focus on one marketing method. This is a common mistake you see made by Internet marketing newbies. They jump around all over the place trying various forms of Internet marketing while never mastering any of them.

They never take the time to learn how to do one method before taking on a second one. Therefore they never develop meaningful traffic to their website because they never stick with something long enough for it to be successful.

2. Having unreasonable expectations. The Internet is a big world and to expect one ad to make the difference in your success is not a reasonable expectation.

You have to view your advertising in the overall scheme of things and understand that there is a lot of competition online and it will take time for you to achieve the results you are looking for.

3. Not testing and tracking the results. How can you know what is working in your advertising efforts if you're not keeping track of the results it is delivering? You should constantly be testing and tracking results and then making adjustments to improve the ads you are running.

4. Not doing some paid advertising. Everyone wants to do as many free or nearly free methods of advertising as they possibly can. Although this is certainly a good idea from a cost standpoint, avoiding paid advertising can cost you a lot of business.

Eventually you need to find a couple of paid advertising methods that work for you and do those. Whether you focus on pay per click advertising, ezine advertising, banner advertising, purchasing visitors, and so on doing some paid advertising is an important part of having a balanced marketing mix.

In summary this is four common marketing mistakes I see being done on the Internet all the time. You can easily avoid these mistakes by understanding what they are and working hard not to make them yourself.

Initially you want to focus on one form of advertising and become good at it. Keep your expectations reasonable and test all of the ads are running. As you can afford it work in paid advertising to give you a balanced marketing mix.
