Broadband by satellite is still in the developmental stages but it seems to be getting the buzz. This is really not surprising when its advancement means faster internet access (depending on weather conditions) and services for consumers. For now, however, they are most often used in places which terrestrial internet cannot reach as well as those spots that are frequently moving such as sea vessels and land automobiles. Broadband by satellite is either one- or two-way.
A one-way connection means that the satellite in space sends data to a computer through a satellite dish but needs a phone line for a computer to return information to the satellite. So when you click on something in a website you’re browsing, a request is first made through a dial-up service before it reaches the satellite. A two-way link, on the other hand, indicates that a computer can both send and receive data from the satellite. Two-way connections, because of this, are of course faster than one-way links.
Getting very fast internet access through broadband by satellite is rather costly at the moment because of the expensive equipments needed for the setup. Add to that the probable monthly charges for internet services and maintenance. Satellite dishes must be properly aligned to avoid noise and interference generated if they get into contact with other satellite dishes so usually there are professionals who install and maintain the system. Power, bit rate, and frequency are also some of the technical stuff that needs to be properly set. Overall, fees can be twice or thrice as much as land-based connections.
