In the past, eBay had more of a "hands off" approach to dispute resolution. In order to protect and nurture the transaction as well as the buyer and seller, this has undergone a change. The time to reach a resolution has also been escalated.
All this has been updated by reducing the amount of "back and forth" between the seller and buyer. This is no longer mandatory and eBay will be taking a more "hands on" approach to resolving unpaid items. Now, the process can be started as early as 96 hours after a listing ends and it is possible that the resolution will be completed within eight days total.
Also, the amount of pages that need to be filled out has been reduced, which further reduces the time involved here. The emails that are sent will now come from eBay and will take a more neutral tone. At any time during this process, eBay may be contacted via email or telephone to intervene.
For PowerSellers, this process can be set to begin automatically and no feedback can be left while a claim is open. This is a very positive feature for sellers that have extremely high numbers of transactions. It is now possible for these sellers to manage their files and get paid for items sold quicker and bring resolutions to problems faster.
In situations where an item was not received or is not as described, the personal emails are still the order of the day, but when that does not work, eBay may be called in. New to this is that if the seller is found to not be at fault, eBay may actually refund the buyer's purchase cost at eBay's expense.
Once this on-EBay resolution process is complete and in place, it will be the primary one for buyers that are unhappy with the actions of the seller.
Another big change is the way that emails will be viewed by buyers & sellers. Buyer emails will now be "threaded" much like a discussion forum style. In this way, you can reference previous messages all in one place. Even with all of this, the buyer's identity will kept anonymous until after the sale is complete.
There are also changes that help make selling on eBay easier and more profitable. These include:
- Exclude any countries that you do NOT want to ship to.
- Adding tracking stats for more carriers.
- Higher visibility of shipping info that helps boost the DSRs of sellers and aids buyers in selecting a seller based on that DSR.
- All "local pick up" listings will not count towards the DSR.
- Only domestic US transactions will be counted towards the DSR.
- Quicker, easier listing editing. Change your item's info faster.
- Category and item specifics are updated. Please see the site for details on this as it may impact your existing listings.
- New tools available in Selling Manager Pro will be available as a free trial beginning August 2009.
- You can go on vacation and put all your fixed price listings on hold as well as your store items.
