How to Market Ethically

A great sales letter is a powerful marketing tool. A good piece of sales copy will typically be chock full of strong selling  words like “revolutionary”,  “unbeatable”, “incredible”, “phenomenal”, and so on, in order to sell all the benefits the customer will enjoy by purchasing and using your products or service.

Be careful, however, that you do not fall into the category of marketers who deliberately over sell their products by exaggerating and hyping their products or services beyond what is reasonable and true. By doing so, they often mislead potential customers into making a purchase by claiming benefits for their goods that do not exist in actuality.

The following is a true story that will serve to illustrate this point:

One day, I happened to receive an email from a friend urging me to check out his latest video tour for a new home business opportunity that he was promoting. I opted in to his web page by submitting my email details and was immediately drawn into the sales copy. It appealed to all my “hot buttons”, promising financial freedom and a new lifestyle of financial independence living the life I had always imagined if I bought into the business opportunity presented. The website presentation also created the impression that the author was himself already financially independent and living his dream lifestyle of exotic vacations, nice cars and a beautiful house!

The major flaw of course, was that I knew the guy quite well and he was certainly a long, long way from living the life of financial abundance that his video presentation presented. In fact, he was only just starting out having only graduated a year or two previously. Armed with this knowledge, I naturally did not buy into the opportunity presented but could see how others could quite easily do so.

The harsh reality is that there are many scams on the internet and unethical individuals and companies who are more than happy to take money from the unsuspecting and trusting budding entrepreneur.

Remember, it is an old but true saying, that if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

If you intend buying into an online opportunity, do your research and check out the company. Ask questions and make sure that there is an actual person at the company you can talk to. You should also be able to check out what support they offer. If there is none, and no one to ask questions of either, hit your back button and back off!
