An example of this was back in the 1980's when Coca-Cola introduced "New Coke" and it was a big disappointment, despite the company conducting over 200,000 taste test. The problem? Customer's perception that "Coke" was better than "New" Coke. You'd better plan on spending a lot of marketing dollars if you plan is to dispel long held perceptions of your product or services.
I know this product like the back of my hand - Knowing the product like the back of you hand isn't the only thing you need to help you sell it. You also need to know the marketplace just as well if not better. In addition to constant changes, the recent talk of recessionary times and changes to the competitive landscape, there are changes in the way your customers receive information. The same people who are looking at your website may also be getting a post-card advertisement in the mail. This would be something to consider in these times, different areas of advertising!
