Search engines provide links to thousands of other sites that someone online may be looking for. If you can get your site to appear in the first page of a search engine there is a very good chance that you will get people clicking on your site. Search engine optimisation (SEO) can help here but does not guarantee you traffic in the way that paid advertising like Pay-Per-Click does.
