The UTM appliance - the all-in-one protection solution

Nowadays, being secure against attacks on single computers or networks is really important. If computers would not be protected with the right application security, they would not resist the constant attack of viruses, worms and spam. In order to solve such problems, specialists have developed all kinds of protection systems like: anti-virus software, firewall, network intrusion prevention, gateway anti-spam, content filtering, etc. Buying all these separately takes a lot of time and effort. This is the reason why professionals have combined them all in just one product under the general name of UTM appliance.

Finding a viable solution for security matters is crucial for every computer, especially for those connected to the Internet. Using an UTM appliance represents the perfect way to protect your network or computer. It is really easy to install it and has the advantage to be all-in-one application security, using just two cables: one from the Internet and one from the local network. Being able to protect the network from all possible threats, it makes the UTM appliance, meaning Unified Threat Management, a great tool anyone can have.

A single application security is not enough nowadays, when cyber threats become more and more numerous each day. The UTM appliance can be purchased from a single vendor, being a unique product with plug and play architecture, meaning that it doesn’t require the installation of numerous programs. It will be just one application security that needs maintenance and one product to learn, meaning reduced technical training requirements.

There are two types of UTM appliances, one is represented by the simple UTM and the second is represented by identity-based UTM appliance. The last one is the next-generation application security, identifying not only the IP addresses in the network, but also providing discrete identity information of each user logged in the network. In this way, the possibility of identifying patterns of behavior for each user is increased; plus, actions like unauthorized intrusions, misuse, different attacks from inside or outside the network can be easily traced.

An application security must be really effective, especially for enterprises with large activities, where all the work is done with the help of computers. Having appliances for storage protection, the right applications and software programs for securing important data from the computers are vital for the normal activities in the company. Otherwise, all the hard work registered on the network can be compromised by different attacks, viruses, hackers etc. The UTM appliance offers protection for the whole network, being really easy to manage in the dynamic virtual world. This is the reason why so many companies use this technology.

One of the most reliable methods of checking the integrity of your WiFi security and application security is through penetration testing. This method is a relatively new technique in the field of network security assessment. Because this is a new technique, practitioners call it by many names. Sometimes, pen testing is referred as security audit while others call it security assessments. The more jargon oriented call it white box hacking. No matter what the terms are, the ultimate goal of
