What Is Social Networking?

Have you been asking yourself, what is social networking? Social networking is done by using the many social groups out there as a media for marketing your business. This type of marketing is one of the fastest growing and least expensive methods of reaching potential customers. Many companies and small businesses have found that by using this type of marketing they have been able to brand themselves like never before.

Let's take a look at some of the social sites and after you try it you may find out that it is a lot of fun as well.

Facebook - Facebook was originally launched in 2004 and is open to anybody thirteen and over. Facebook was originally intended for use by college students but opened up to everybody in 2006. Since 2006, Facebook has been growing steadily becoming one of the largest social networks on the internet. One of its close competitors, MySpace, has been loosing momentum while Facebook continues to grow with leaps and bounds.

Twitter - Twitter is the newest of the social sites and has become internationally famous thanks to the many celebrities who like to talk about their daily activities. You may recall the Tweet competition that Ashton Kutcher had with CNN. Twitter has become a daily ritual for many users and due to its rapid growth many techniques have been implemented to make money from its use.

Twitter users send out," Tweets", which is kind of like sending out a short instant message. Its short messaging platform has people from all walks of life sending out their tweets on a daily basis for personal and business use. An example of a business use would be to send out a Tweet when you make a new post to your blog. Your followers will then be able to see what you have been working on and pay a visit to your new post which hopefully you have linked to your main website. But as always, the quality of your posts should be first with quantity being second.

MySpace - MySpace was started in 2003 to compete with other social sites like Friendster. MySpace continues to have a loyal following of users who want to keep in touch with friends and family. Setting up a profile is relatively easy with the step by step instructions that are given when you sign up. During setup you can add photos, school information and even your business information. During the last year or so, MySpace has lost some of its edge due to the growing popularity of Facebook and Twitter but it continues to be a site worth looking in to.

From an internet marketing standpoint, social networking can be as productive as placing ads on websites and will be a lot easier on your wallet. Using Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to market your business will allow a whole new audience to see what you have to offer. Take this opportunity to brand yourself with a lot of unique and useful content and watch your internet business grow. Good luck and best wishes, Tim Stokes.
