Internet marketing has become a phenomenon of the 21st century. Though it started over the last 20 years ago, we have seen it explode in opportunity for the average small business owner.
The consistent financial success of millions of people around the world can be laid squarely on the strategies created by the Internet marketing pioneers who survived the “dot com bubble.” Many people learned about success principles after failing in business, then returned to get it right the second or third time. The same holds for Internet marketing.
The major factor in Internet marketing success is the attitude of consistency. That single trait coupled with the right action steps tend to lead to great success. If you have decided to make Internet marketing your business model and have not been successful at making any money after several months, you need to ask yourself a few very important questions.
Internet marketing as sport
There is a strong connection between sports and business that many motivational speakers reference. The reason for that has a lot to do with the competitive nature of both but also the personal assets needed in both sports and business that are critical for success. Internet marketing, like all business models require several dominant personal principals for success:
1) Strength of character
When you plan on creating a business that is based on selling products to a wide variety of people, you are usually going to come up against stiff competition. If you find a market that has no competition, the chances of it paying your bills will be slim. If you do discover a niche goldmine, be prepared to face oncoming competition. These niches don’t stay secret for long. When competition gets heavy, don’t give up, get better.
2) Perseverance
The people who keep going even when things look crazy and the odds seem to be against them; are the ones who eventually succeed in the long run.
3) Vision
The most successful business owners have a sharp and detailed vision of their business, their goals and their future. The reason they do is because it is on their minds all the time. The idea of achieving a set of goals without knowing exactly what those goals are is inefficient.
4) An action plan
One of the ways to get results on a daily basis is to design your plan of action and lay out your daily activity ahead of time. That means you will need to not only construct your plan, but also plan on taking consistent daily action on it.
5) Consistency
I will tell you right now that the most important factor in achieving a successful business is the virtue of consistency. Consistency allows you to compound the action you take to achieve the goals that others only dream of having. The constant drip of water on a rock can create a deep groove over time.
By taking the correct action in your business on a daily basis, you build on your successes day in and day out. You will have failures but by taking the correct actions to achieve your goals, you will outweigh your failures with success.
6) Clarity of purpose
One of the greatest issues of staying consistent in your actions is losing focus. It’s easy to lose focus when the daily crisis replaces your schedule. These things will come up constantly but you must get back on track every time. You do that by having a clarity of vision and clarity of purpose. If you know what you are shooting for you will snap back to your course of action. The problem is the tendency to lose focus when distractions come around.
These factors are great traits to have in and of them selves; but in a business that requires you to put 100% of your energy and attention in it to succeed; you must have all these traits in abundance to reach your goals.
