One of the methods used to get more web traffic to a blog or a website is "tag and ping" or "blog and ping". It is quite simple to do, and brings many benefits to the webmaster savvy enough to take advantage of it.
What is Pinging?
Simply put, pinging is a method of verifying the presence of a place on the internet; and getting a response from that location. Ping is a program which is built into every operating system out there; it is one of the most commonly used tools in the system or network administrator's toolkit. It merely checks for an internet addresses existence, and then requests a response from that address (which is to make sure that the address is capable of receiving requests). As a point of information/trivia to amaze your friends: ping is an acronym for packet inter-network groper!
The Process
A ping can be used anytime someone updates their website, or more relevant for our purposes here, a blog. A blog of course has frequently updated information. More static types of websites are less frequently updated and therefore not pinged as often.
A blog may be updated as much as several times a day, and often are a venue for the author to market products or services they offer, or as part of an affiliate marketing business. The author gets commissions on sales of the product in an affiliate relationship, so it is vital for the author to make search engines aware of any new content on the blog ASAP. This way they will receive more traffic and thus, more sales.
Of course, not every blog, or every post on a blog is written with the intent of selling something. Quite often it is the case that a blog posting or an article is written just to convey information or provide entertainment to readers. No matter what the reason for new content, any site owner wants their content seen, so getting this new post indexed by search engines is key to getting more visitors to the page.
A lot of ping requests must be sent to many different servers in order to get the kind of traffic the author will want for their content. There are pinging services out there which save the author from having to go through the tedious and time consuming process of individually pinging many different servers.
Advantages
Using more than one of these pinging services is a good idea. This will mean that many more servers will be pinged and become aware of new content than if just one pinging service was used. This of course, means more traffic; and traffic is the be all and end all of having a website of any kind.
Search engines are constantly indexing websites (this is called crawling or spidering). When they visit one of the servers which have been alerted to the fact that your site has new content, the search engines will also now be aware of your new content! That is the crucial first step in getting your new blog posts indexed. The more servers you ping, the easier it will be for the search engines to locate and index your new content, making it easier for people to find.
A lot of blogging services let the author opt for extra pinging services, along with those offered by the blogging service itself. An author can find many pinging services with a simple internet search, and add any they desire to their account with the blogging service.
Disadvantages
There is one drawback to using multiple pinging services. This is that there will be some duplicate pings. This can sometimes result in a blog being considered spam by some servers. It is up to the author to make the call on how many pinging services should be used, as there is no one formula for determining how many pings it takes to be considered spam by any particular server.
Judicious usage of "blog and ping" can greatly increase web traffic. Just one of many tools out there to increase traffic, "blog and ping" nevertheless should not be overlooked as a way of attracting more visitors.

I know it is long. These conversations all pertain to the same story. The conversation was continued for a couple of days. Stacy does not know what to make up what her mom means. Stacy called me and told me the story: I said to her ?(1) You are getting worked up over nothing. You have to keep in mind you are into the discount store and love clothes. Your mom isn?t in to those type of stores and when people are NOT into something they will say what your mother says which is the following: that you don?t have to go every day and how many clothing items do you need and (2) yes you can finally accept your mom does not care how much or what you buy? MY QUESTION: Do you agree/concur with me give details on why you do or don?t agree. ThanksTHIS HAPPENED WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2008: Stacy went to the 99 cent store. Stacy brought four beautiful blouses for her mom and four for her. Later Stacy gave the blouses to her mom. Her mom loved them and could not wait to wear them. Stacy brought home one blouse and one sweater for Stacy. And a blouse for either her sister or mom. Stacy gave the blouse to her mom. Her mom didn?t love it, even though it is gorgeous. On the other hand, when Stacy showed her mom the blouse Stacy brought for herself Stacy?s mom loved that oneMom: ?Stacy I wish you could have gotten the blouse you brought for yourself for me in my size.?Stacy: ?I brought three necklaces as well. The price tag says $12.99 but I got the necklaces for 99 cent so I brought three different colors?Stacy?s mom :?You know you have to get a job to wear all these clothes?Stacy: ?Mom please clarify?Mom: ?I just mean you have all those clothes. I mean if they were not 99 cent would you buy all of them?Stacy: ?No I wouldn?t?(Then they had a fight and said some mean things to another)THIS CONVERSATION HAPPENED ON THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2008 IN THE EVENING .Stacy: ?Why was it my attitude yesterday that got you upset?Mom: ?You kept bothering me about the blouse which annoyed me.?Stacy: ?So why didn?t you tell me to leave??Mom: ?I did but you wouldn?t let up. All I said yesterday was that you when you work you need more changes. Don?t you agree??Stacy: ?What does that have to do with anything?Mom: ?But don?t you agree that you need more changes for work. I mean if you are home you don?t need clothes sitting in the closet. Ok you go to the 99 cent store, but would you buy those clothes if they were full price?Stacy: ?No, but I like going to the 99 cent store?Mom: ?But you don?t have to go every day. I mean I have to go to the supermarket, but what would you think if I went every day?Stacy: ?No going to the supermarket everyday is different?Mom: ?I need food for the house, but wouldn?t you think it would be obsessive if I went every day. It isn?t like you need clothes, you want them, you have enough for 100 years?Mom: ?Here is the book you want to read. I finished it?Stacy: ?I feel as if you are saying I shouldn?t go to the 99 cent store?Mom: ?That is what you hear, that is not what I am saying?THIS CONVERSATION HAPPENED FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 2008Mom: :how do you like this blouse I am wearing that you brought me?Stacy: ?It looks great. Do you want to go to the 99 cent store today?Mom: ?Ok?Stacy: ?Were you saying that I should not have brought all that I have brought at the 99 cent store?Mom: ?NO?THIS CONVERSATION HAPPENED MARCH 27, 2008Mom: ?Everyone loved the blouse - I wore it today?Stacy: ?Mom since you are talking about clothes - do you care how much or what I brought?Mom: ?I NEVER SAID I CARED.
