Building Opt-in Email Lists

Building Opt-In Email Lists

A solid email marketing plan should definitely include an opt-in list. This database of subscribers are permission-based and are interested updates and news from you.

Some of the doís and doníts in putting together an opt-in mailing list are here:

DO'S

1. Subscription forms should appear on your website prominently. Potential subscribers should not have to hunt for it. Use a script builder software to create your own subscriber form.
2. Include this subscription opt-in in all of your email signatures. This will enable readers to link directly to website in order to subscribe.
3. Simply ask customers or visitors if they would like to opt-in.
4. Include opt-in option links on your business cards. This way you can share subscription information on the fly.
5. Clearly describe the benefits or mention how often they can expect to see an email from you.
6. New subscribers should be contacted immediately through an auto-responder email. This email will serve to welcome.

DON'T

1. Never add unpermitted emails to your list. Always, always, always ask for permission.
2. Don't purchase lists unless you are absolutely sure that they are an opt-in or permission-based list.
3. Never abuse a subscriber's trust. This will ruin your brand and you.

Building your opt-in mailing list is much easier and more cost-effective than sending direct mails. There's no printing, envelopes or paper involved. Here are some ways to effectively start your opt-in mailing list:
1. Offer a FREE Newsletter. The newsletter should contain useful information such as tips or tools or anything that deals with your website's products or services.
2. Make Subscribing Easy. A step-by-step procedure for subscribing will make it easy for visitors.
3. Quality Content. Make sure all written content is of value. This will incite visitors to visit your website.
4. Use Forums. Forums or discussion boards can be found everywhere on the net. By regularly participating a few select forums, you can build a reputation for being the "expert".
5. Write articles. Article writing can instantly make you an expert in your field.
6. Co-registration. This is a very effective way to build a huge opt-in list in no time.
7. Write an e-book. E-books are an excellent freebie for visitors to you site and subscribers to your list. The e-book does not have to be expensively made or elaborate. It can simply be a compilation of your best articles, tips or resources.

An opt-in mail list should be very focused. Follow these quick and easy steps to capture the perfect customer base.

1. Choose a target market; know who your customers are and what they want.
2. Make sure you are actually reaching them online.
3. Avoid non-profit investment or spending and always monitor your spending.
4. Forums and discussion boards are available for maximum use. Identify your target market's problems.
5. Find out what it is that will make them come back and then offer it.
6. Offer to solve their problems.
7. Set up a simple direct response mini-site.
8. Obtain an auto-responder account.
9. "Hook" potential customers with giveaways like: ebooks, special reports, mini courses and coupons, etc.
10. Always strive to creatively think of new ways to reach your target market.

Opt-in building can be tedious but offers amazing results. It will take time and effort but persistence is the key.
