According to CNET Science and Technology Information Network International reported that Hewlett-Packard has decided to spend 2.7 billion dollars to acquire 3Com, a famous network equipment maker , to accelerate the expansion of the pace of the Chinese market and the competition with Cisco.
3Com is a veteran of network equipment vendors. Before the Internet bubble both 3Com and Cisco have an excellent performance. After that the achievement of 3Com become worse and worse. 
In November 2003, Huawei-3Com joint venture was founded by Huawei and 3Com (referred to as H3C).
In November 2006, 3Com announced to spend 882 million U.S. dollars to buy 49% stake of H3C hold by Huawei. After in fulfilling the relevant legal procedures, 3Com will be the sole holders of the new company.
And by September 2007, Huawei join BainCapital intend to spent to 2.2 billion dollars for acquisition of 3Com. However, this project was rejected by U.S. government by the excuse that threat to national security grounds.
In recent years, 3Com has always been concerned about the Chinese market. Other networking giant Huawei, Cisco, Juniper, etc. have also started distribution in China.
Not long before, Juniper announced a new marketing strategy, claiming that would be to enter the cloud computing, cloud data centers and other fields.
Also recently, Cisco, VMWare, and EMC announced an alliance and established a joint venture to develop cloud computing and data center market.
This time, before HP announced the acquisition of 3Com, some analysts saisd that HP or Brocade will acquire Juniper Networks.
According to reports, Hewlett-Packard said it would pay 7.90 U.S. dollars per share price to purchase 3Com, it's premium of 39% than its Wednesday closing price on the Nasdaq stock exchange .
Analysis pointed out that Hewlett-Packard will directly compete with Cisco through its acquisition of 3Com.
Last year, Cisco launched its own brand of server products, which is Cisco's involvement in the industry as a starting point for the data center field.
HP, Cisco has long been a thorn in the side. It's not long after the launch of the Cisco network video conferencing system "telepresence" , HP launched the Halo. The two companies tip-to-head. The HP's acquisition of 3Com, not only enhance the strength of the network communication market, but also strengthen HP'S power in the communications and data center market, and enhance the strength against Cisco and IBM.
It is reported that the Transactions Ordinance have been approved by the Board of Hewlett-Packard and 3Com, but it waiting to shareholder approval of the General Assembly. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2010.
