Picture this: You got the domain name, you started the site, now you sit and wait for that ton of traffic to come and shop, but you only hear crickets? Sound familiar?
There are so many websites out there now, that unless you have the biggest and widest website, you are most likely buried somewhere on page 200,000 or more.
Not likely going to attract too much attention or traffic on that page right?. A website is just like a bricks and mortar store, you have to let everyone know you are open, and just like a physical store, you have a budget right?
A few flyers and ads here and there and hopefully a few more people come into your store, but at what cost? Competition can be fierce, and advertising can be expensive.
At the end of the day... Word Of Mouth is still one of the best free ways to get known. It may take a little longer, but once you tell the right people, news about you should spread quickly, just like a virus. That is why it is called viral marketing. So, here is one major tip, that sent lots of free traffic to my site.
EMAIL.. I don't mean, those mass ads, that you delete everyday from your inbox, but targeted to specific people that you know, that also know other people and so on.
When I started my site, I emailed ten friends with the "news bulletin" on my site, and the URL and asked them to check it out, and if they liked it.. to pass it on. I also added the URL to my signature for ANY emails I sent out. You can do this through the setup feature of your email program. This way, every email has your name and your URL address under it. People are curious what you are up to, and are likely to click on your site.
But by sending out those initial ten emails, I received a little traffic the first day, by the 3rd day, the traffic had doubled and so on.. and it is still working that way today.
Free traffic can take a little patience, but it is well worth the wait, as you get visitors, who are likely to stay awhile on your site, and hopefully purchase something or click on those adsense ads, and that is where the money is with free traffic!
