The trick with the One Time Offer is to write persuasive, effective copy. And you're appealing to different types of emotions depending on where you use your OTO. When done correctly, these offers have a high conversion rate.
Let's assume an Internet marketer named Bob is winning in the search engine results with the keyword phrases "dog training basics" and "dog training course." When people click on his link, they are taken to his squeeze page where they are able to sign up for his free newsletter that provides tips for training dogs to obey commands like sit, lay, stay, etc.
Bob's goal is to monetize his traffic as soon as possible. That creates a steady stream of cash flow which allows him to expand his marketing efforts and attract even more people to his site. He also wants to meet his customers where they are in the buying cycle, so he uses an OTO as an exit pop and redirects new ezine subscribers to an OTO page. Let's track these two different types of One Time Offers and see how Bob uses each one for maximum impact.
The OTO as an Exit Pop: this OTO targets those visitors who see Bob's squeeze page but opt not to give their contact information. When they exit the page, a message pops up. Here Bob provides extra incentive for them to subscribe by offering a secret, exclusive bonus for dog lovers that they can't get anywhere else.
Once they leave the page, they will never again have the option to get this bonus. It's exclusively reserved for them this one time only, but they won't ever have access to it again. The fear of missing out on something combined with the curiosity of discovering what the secret bonus converts a good percentage of this exit traffic. To monetize this exit traffic, Bob could also offer an exclusive affiliate product or a special deal on one of his own products. The key is to create that fear of missing out on a great deal.
The OTO as a Redirect Page: this targets those visitors who subscribe to Bob's newsletter from his squeeze page. Once they subscribe, he redirects them to a OTO page. Here he packs an enormous amount of value into his offer of a special Dog Training Kit that normally sells for $497 for the shocking low price of only $97.
In the kit, he offers a series of ebooks about basic dog care, training aggressive dogs, advanced tricks, different needs of different breeds as well as a complete course with step-by-step instructions for obedience training. He assigns a value to each item, and that value is significantly higher than the OTO.
This has to be the only place and time customers can buy this product with the unique bonuses at this price. The products will still be available at other times, but they will have to pay the original price. It must be a "no-brainer" deal that makes them WANT to buy right away. By making his offer urgent, he motivates his prospects to become immediate customers.
