"You have discoverd a tried and tested internet marketing strategy that works". Have you heard those words before? I know I have and been weary of trusting any product that would market to me like that. I would generally just click out of the website and continue on with my search.
Times have changed and website owners are changing their ways and giving visitors to their sites, more bang for their buck. As a visitor, leaving someone's site could save them money or increase the worth of the product. For a seller, it converts more visitors to buyers.
How does it do this? It is all in the software code and it is the easiest thing you can put on your website. Visitors love it becuase it gives them a little more for their money. Most visitors to your website are use to the marketing strategy and will often times click out of your site to get a little more than what was originally offered to them.
There is nothing wrong with that and I encourage it. If your visitor is taking the time to try and beat your marketing strategy, then you already have them hooked. They will buy.
Now lets say the visitor was disappointed in the product because it was a little too expensive. They made the quick decision to not buy the product because the price did not meet their expectations. In the past, the visitor would leave and not come back. Back in those times seller had no recourse on winning back the customer.
To solve this problem, software developers started to come up with interesting ways to keep the customer on the sellers website. They did this with a very unique piece of software. This software would recognize when a customer would close the internet window. It did not matter if the customer closed the window through clicking on the" X" in the upper right corner of the browser window or if they closed the window through the file drop down menu. The software would recognize any closure of the window and show a very simple message to the visitor .
That message gave the seller one more chance to sell to the customer. Most sellers use this opportunity to sell to the customer at the lowest price, while others used the opportunity to give out a free report.
Sellers who used the second opportunity to sell to the customer at a lower price, are sellers that are banking on the idea that the customer did not buy the product because it was too expensive. By offering them a lower price, they feel that the customer would then buy and become a valued customer.
For those sellers that used the second opportunity to give away a free report they are banking on the fact that the customer did not like the product. They feel that grabbing the customer's information by enticing them to sign up for a free report, will give them the opportunity to sell them something different through a newsletter or email. Both strategies work, but it does depend on the market and what you are selling.
Over the years I have seen a lot of these internet gurus using this exact exit strategy. The Internet Gurus claim they can convert up to 80% of all customers that leave their website. It works because the customer has already been sold by the great squeeze page, but the price was just a little too high. When they are presented with the lower price, they can't resist!
No matter how you look at this strategy it works and it can work for you. Even if you convert just 20% of your customers who leave your website, that is still money in your pocket and a valued customer that will return to buy other products.
Creating one of these scripts can be fairly simple for a good programmer, unfortunately most of us aren't experienced programmers. Luckily these scripts can be had on the internet for quite a low price. Using them effectively however, well that's a whole different story.
To be effective, you need to understand the common pitfalls that rookies make when dealing with scripts and even how to avoid them.
You are giving your visitor a way to benefit from a better value and the site owner is making great money on converting the customer to a buyer. It is a win, win situation for both the seller and the buyer. What better way to make a living!
