Every successful online business is always on the lookout for any list building tips that could help them increase their sales. Next to traffic generation list building is one of the most important components of any internet business. It stands to reason that the more people who are willing to receive our promotional materials the greater the sales potential, right?

Building a list many times incorporates the use of obvious and logical strategies that some times are overlooked in the overall marketing strategy.

What are some of the fastest and most effective ways to collect contact information from website visitors? 

Well there are various techniques available that could improve upon your current results however none have proven conclusively superior to all the rest.

The choice you make will depend upon your marketing strategy, available resources, skill set, and personal preference.

Let's look at 7 list building tips any of which could increase the effectiveness of your current efforts:

#1  Offer a Gift


In exchange for their signing up to your list offer a free gift that presents value to the visitor. Be sure the gift is relative to what it is you're promoting. It only stands to reason the gift will hold greater value for the visitors if they were already interested in your primary product.

An ebook, inexpensive software, ezine subscription, email course, or newsletters are excellent examples of gifts you could offer.

#2  Squeeze 'em'

By first routing site visitors to a landing page or squeeze page before they see your sales page you can capture contact info first. Without the distraction of all the sales copy you're better able to get the site visitor to focus on the opt-in process.

#3  Keep it Brief and to the Point


When using a dedicated squeeze page to urge visitors to opt-in to your list you'll want to keep it short and simple and with NO CHOICES. Briefly remind your visitors why they'll want to continue to the next page (your sales page) with a short list of benefits they'll receive. Now review a short list of benefits your free gift offers them and request their contact info so they can RECEIVE THEIR FREE GIFT.

#4  Publish Articles

When you submit an article include in your resource box a link to subscribe to your newsletter or ezine along with the link to your website.

#5  Use the Power of Viral Marketing


In every newsletter or ezine you circulate include a note to encourage the reader to share your publication with others. With the inclusion of your link (and of course good content) the 'new' reader now has the opportunity to subscribe.

#6  Place a Sign-up Form on Every Page


If a squeeze page is not your preference then the placement of a sign-up form on every page of your website gives the visitor repeated chances to leave their information. Be sure you locate the form in an obvious and easy to find location.

#7  Use a Pop-Up

In lieu of a 'standing' sign-up form on your page by adding a pop-up upon the visitor exiting the site you're insuring they will see your opt-in form. Once they've left they're probably gone for good so be sure the chance for them to sign-up is clearly made available.
