RSS Website Advantages
RSS or Really Simple Syndication formatting can be inserted in to websites by Internet users for the purpose of receiving web syndication. Thus, they can make their content available to the entire world wide web.
RSS service as a database that stores headlines, summaries, and links to the full content. When website contains an RSS feed, users will recognize this by eye-catching graphics that indicated that that particular content is available as a feed. In most cases feeds will appear as orange-colored rectangles and will have 'RSS' or 'XML' inside them.
RSS is growing in popularity and everyone can now use it to their advantage. Adding a feed to your site is easy if you follow these simple steps:
1. Create the content in an RSS feed format or XML. Or obtain a feed from another source.
2. Click on the RSS feed icon and note the URL of the feed. It is this address that will be displayed.
3. Now place the URL in your RSS feed creation program.
4. Activate the 'Generate Feed' button and the code will be generated.
5. Enter this code at the appropriate place in your website.
With the code in place, you will need to publish your web content. This will allow it to be displayed on other sites. RSS readers or aggregators take care of this. Readers can be categorized into three types:
- Desktop RSS readers - These are standalone applications. They will run in the background.
- Web-based aggregators - an online service.
- Plug-in aggregators - allow users to view RSS feeds when they are inside of an existing program.
RSS feeds in websites will provide users with the ability to control what information they actually receive and information will always be fresh.
RSS feeds offer interesting options to businesses and online marketers. For instance:
- Email marketing and publishing
- Business blogging
- Search engine optimazation
- Branding
- Internet advertising
- Digital public relations
Plus your website will be more efficient in attracting traffic because of SEO and the options of distributing content to cell phones, voice mails, email ticklers or PDAs.
