The Components of a Business Card

If you are in business, you probably have a business card that you can hand out to prospective customers.  If you do not, you should get one immediately.  Business cards, despite being old in the tooth, continue to be effective marketing tools.  They allow you to give direct contact information to people who are likely to need your product or service.

But business cards can also do much more than that.  There is a lot more information that you can include on your business cards to make them even more powerful.  Here are a few components that should be a part of every business card printing project you design.

Your Business Name
Obviously, you want to make your business name a part of every business card that you design.  However, it should not necessarily be the most prominently displayed information on your card.  You have to take into account all of the things you are going to include on your cards (including the components that follow) and decide which component is the most important to your customers.  Then, make that the most visible portion of the card.

Your Contact Information
Again, you obviously have to include your contact information, or your business cards will be useless.  Be sure to include your phone number(s), address, and email address.  If you have a website, include the URL for that, as well.  But be careful not to include too much contact info.  Usually, a fax number or pager number is not needed on a business card.  If a customer needs that, you can give it to them verbally.

Special Offers and Such
There is no law that says that business cards cannot serve as advertisements.  Far too many people simply use them to give out contact info.  Why not include something enticing to the recipient?  Go ahead and turn your business card into a coupon.  Or include a special offer right on the card for your customers to take advantage of.  Doing this will make your business cards much more memorable and, in turn, effective.

A Logo
If you have a logo, be sure to include it on your business cards.  A logo can have a tremendous impact on the power of your business cards.  It instantly adds credibility for your business and makes you appear more professional.

Color
I know this is not technically a component, but more of a feature.  Still, adding color to your business cards is not extremely expensive, and doing so will significantly increase the effectiveness of your cards.  Full color is the very best option available, but any color at all is better than no color.  Splurge for full color business cards if you can.  You will not be sorry.
