Whether your a new investor of have been trading stocks for many years there is no reason not to keep an eye on your picks and the market. Unless you're day trading and need real time quotes, there is not a reason to pay for a ticker either.
If you just have a few stocks you want to keep up with or a whole market, you've got many choices out there to put on your computer. Here are four free tickers that scroll on your desktop that should meet most peoples needs.
Free Stock Ticker
This is a great little scroll program with a small footprint. It pulls data from Yahoo! Finance and can include up to nine different data fields. You can put this anywhere on your screen leaving space to complete your normal work. This program takes up only 1 megabyte of hard drive space and minimal CPU usage.
There is on drawback on this one that you need to be aware of. This program utilizes small amounts of your computing power for the Collegiate Study Project. Much like the other programs out there, you can create and follow your own portfolio. It too will take up minimal screen space and runs on Java. However, the neat feature that comes with this tool is its message board. A free investors message board is available for users to discuss strategies, what's hot, and exchange ideas. Cool Tick
This one is very prevalent on the Internet right now. What's nice about this ticker is you can change the scroll speed, font size and color. Although you can create a portfolio of stocks there is a catch. The free version only allows two stock picks. To get unlimited stocks you will have to shell out $20 for the registration fee.
Nasdaq
If you're trading tech stocks why not get your info direct from the source. You can customize this ticker for up to 50 stocks. You're not just limited to just the Nasdaq either.
