Diamondsking Guides - the Diamonds in the History

From thousands of years ago, the diamonds have inspired humans to do exceptional acts, considered the most precious of the gemstones, this are, by far, the most extraordinary jewels ever.

There are many, many theories about the discovery of this magnificent stones, but let’s highlight that the first references can be found in the Bible, more specifically in the book of Exodus. That can give us an idea about how old the diamonds have walked through the history besides the human.

Even though, is when India starts to produce them in mass when they become “well known”, they gave the diamonds the name vajra which means “thunderbolt”. It arrived to Europe probably around the third century before our era when Alexander the Magnus travelled and conquests reached that continent. At these times, it was used as talisman, curative stone, or even poison (its powder version), and the legends that surrounded the gemstones were countless.

In the Middle Ages, there’s an stage of about 1000 years where the diamonds were considered disappeared in Europe, simultaneously to the Christian religion raise, and it’s not until the 16 century and the French Monarchy era when the diamonds come again to scene.

Around 1600, the diamond experience another slightly impulse with the advancement on the jewelry techniques, the gold is substituted with the silver as ornament to use with the diamonds, since it avoids the yellow reflection on the gem.

In the 17 century, there is a mass import movement of diamonds from South America, and they become the favorite of the ladies, making them the trend jewel.

Later on in the 1800s, the abundant arrivals of diamonds from Africa made them more affordable for everyone, and same time with the Romanticism age and the Belle Epoque on France, made of this range of time maybe the most shining one for the diamonds ever.
