Passion makes a difference! Students need to be passionate about their education. Not passionate because OTHERS want them to be - but passionate because school is important to THEM. When kids have goals in their lives - and a dream that they focus on - learning becomes for THEM and not for OTHERS. It is so important that we help our students focus themselves on the future. Once we do that, their learning will accelerate at a rapid rate because they have a vested interest.
Kids needs goals to shoot for - without them they will always choose the path of academic least resistance. It is so important that children set obtainable goals - and then that adults teach them how to both obtain and reach for those goals. Help your children - even in early elementary - to dream about careers and the future. Most of the kids that underperform are those that find little relevance to school. When children have a goal and a desire for the future -school becomes meaningful. And, when something you are doing is meaningful - of course you will do better at it!
Furthermore, so many parents think that college for their children is an unreachable dream … it isn’t! College goals should be a primary focus for every child - no matter your income level. Websites like www.iamgoingtocollege.com offer information and access to over $80 billion in free college funding.
