DOING AWAY WITH THE CLASS X BOARD EXAMS.
The long standing no stress & low stress learning concept has ultimately crept in to the mind of Educational Authority of India. Students started thanking Mr. Sibal for his firm decision for bringing a reformation in the day’s long learning process. All stress of the pupils, parents & teachers will go away within next 100 days to come. It’s the daring effort to take the way of education in a joyous path where children will feel education a joy & continuous learning process. Let me discuss the proposals of education reform package declared by the HRD minister about class X.
- Make class X exams optional, thus permitting students continuing in same school (and who do not need a board certificate) to take an internal school assessment instead.
- Introduce a system replacing marks by grades in schools affiliated to CBSE for secondary classes, i.e. IX and X.
- Unifying all schools in India under a single board
Now sleepless nights of students and parents before class X exams are not needed. Students will enjoy the studies with semesters for continuous testing of the development of students.
Making class X exams optional will mean that students who want to continue in the same school and do not need a CBSE certificate can choose not to appear for the boards. They will be judged on quarterly internal assessments. But students who want to move to another school after class X need to take the board exam.
Attempt of the government time to time to make learning a joyous one is praiseworthy. Grading system to regularize the ‘no fail’ system up to class VIII has now been extended up to class X. It’s obviously an excellent part of decision. Grade may reduce the stress for marks and child can learn more in the environment of new continuous and comprehensive evaluation basis.
Education is nothing but adding in the learning process of the child. Marks cannot weigh the learning abilities of a child. Focus must be on perfection of the learning process of the child rather than marks. We have an aim of building a child as a good human being with all round development out of the education. We don’t want the marking system of Board exams which categories the students into good and bad, even worst. Comparing by rank, by marks and stressing upon the child to fetch good marks have been going to be outdated. And education will be a research based studies. Now goal will not be to keep highest marks but to perfect in learning.
State governments have been resisting the concept of one board pattern since 2005 when it was made part of National Curriculum Framework. But it is sure that once it is accepted, it will surely fulfill the idea of equal pattern of education to all children all over India. We, the teachers, parents and students; let’s pray for the implementation of this proposals as quickly as possible so that India can able to write a new history in the pages of school education.

The Reasons Why No Child Left Behind is Ineffective
By: Kimberly Smith | 09/11/2009The goal of the No Child Left Behind Act was to improve American schools and to make sure that 100% of public school children are proficient in reading and math. However, the law is unrealistic and has unreachable goals. It does not take into account parental involvement or students with disabilities. It also allows states to create their own assessments and definition of proficiency. As a result, many states are lowering their standards so that more students can pass.
