If it is your first time buying a pressure cooker, looking for the right one may seem to be as easy as learning your ABC’s. After all, pressure cookers are all the same.
Not!
One of the first things that you would need to know is the difference between an aluminum pressure cooker and a steel one. If you are strapped for cash, you can go for the aluminum one. However, you have to keep in mind that, with the aluminum pressure cookers, you most likely have to deal with stain and pit. On the other hand, they tend to be lighter in weight than their steel counterpart.
You would also need to consider the size of your pressure cooker. Sizes are determined by the amount of liquid that your pressure cooker can hold. The most popular sizes are the 4, 6 and 8 quarts. Other sizes such as 16, 18 and 23 are also available for people who have to cook larger quantities of food.
Far from worrying about which brand to go for, you should consider the features that go along with your pressure cooker. Some of the features that you might want to consider include a sturdy cooker handle pressure regulator to help you control and monitor the pressure inside. We won’t want the vegetables to come out all soggy. You should also consider having a weighted valve. Now, in order for you to make use of weighted valve, you have to be sure that your pressure regulator is removable. You might also want to consider other features such as cover interlock and cooking rack.
Make sure also that you have warranties on all your pressure cooker parts most specifically the cooker handle as they are usually the first ones to come off. Some pressure cookers usually come with a spare cooker handle so you need not worry much about how to find a replacement should this come off.
Shops and repair centers that offer stove handle replacement are also a good place to find cooker handles. If you are not sure how to replace the handle, these stores can help you do that.
Just like with most stove spare parts, you should also keep a spare part for your pressure cooker. Parts that usually come off and are usually subjected to heat, wear and tear like the gasket, handle, pressure regulator and weighted valve should always have a replacement ready.
