If you want to redesign your kitchen then you basically have two options. You can hire a company to do everything for you or you can do it yourself. Hiring a company will cost you some serious money. The materials will only be a small part of the overall cost. Depending on how many people they'll have working on your kitchen you can expect to pay several thousand dollars even if it's just for new kitchen lighting, new sink or and new kitchen floor. You can however save a lot by doing it yourself. And if you are interested in this approach then you need to have a plan. The plan you devise should have several parts to it. The parts of the plan should concentrate on kitchen cabinets, kitchen lighting, kitchen floor and kitchen counters. These will be the basics because you can add additional plans for a kitchen island and even a kitchen backsplash.

Now that you know what parts of the kitchen you want to redesign you have to collect information that will help you accomplish the feat of kitchen redesign. There are many resources both online and even in bookstores. The best approach is to probably start reading online and joining DIY communities. You can get many great ideas and most people in such communities are very helpful. Familiarizing yourself with DIY lingo is also important. You need to know what the parts, materials and tools are called. This will be helpful because it will make matters easy when you have a question. Your next step is to select a certain design for one part of your plan. So if you are starting with the floor you need to decide on what kind of style is right for you. Perhaps you want tiles or maybe you want wooden floors. Once you're decided you can then decide on the type of material that you want. Perhaps ceramic tiles if you want tile floors and perhaps oak wood for your floors if you want wood flooring. Knowing such information will narrow your research. Specific research is much better than general research. This way if you do want wooden floors you can go ahead and research wood floors instead of kitchen floors in general.

You know what you want now and it's time to estimate how much the materials will cost. This will take a lot of time to research and you can begin online but also check out stores like home depot. Your last step after knowing how much everything will cost is to do the actual research that will help you install your new floor or new kitchen cabinets. Online DIY guides that include pictures and videos are much more helpful than an all text help guide. This is my experience anyway. It helps many people when they are able to see a visualization of the steps necessary to build or install something. It's also great to be able to pay and playback a video. Finally you need to think of a way to keep everything organized. Knowing exactly where the tools and materials are is helpful. You also don't want your family getting hurt by tripping on materials on the floor. This means you must involve your family in the plan.  They will be inconvenienced for some duration if for example you are installing a new kitchen floor. You would probably have to devise a plan in this regard like how will food be prepared when the kitchen is being worked on. The inconvenience will hopefully be limited and worth it when you and your and your family enter your  beautiful completed new kitchen.
