Braeg has worked in the Kitchen Appliances industry for over 10 years. He specializes in Neff Appliances
I imagine that one of the main reasons why more and more people are opting for the electric ovens these days is because of their safety and consistency. Landlords and landladies will often go for an electric oven over a gas oven because of the risks associated with gas- there is always the chance that the tenant will forget to turn the gas off and then the house is pretty much up in flames. That is far less likely to happen with an electric oven. It can happen, but in general they are far safer.
All of Neff’s ovens are electric and most of the Neff electric ovens fall into three categories: single ovens, double ovens and range cookers. The range cookers will sometimes have a gas hob, but the oven is always electric. The standard ovens are all available in stainless steel, but some models are also available in white, black or brown. The nostalgic ovens are available in only black and brown.
Like most of Neff’s kitchen appliances, the Neff electric ovens are available in six series. Series one is the most basic. It has the fewest features and is the most inexpensive and as we move up the series, the ovens begin to gain more features, but also start to go up in price. Series six is obviously the highest specification electric oven currently available from Neff and they feature electronic control and ClearText design features.
But why are so many people choosing electric over gas? Well, in terms of energy efficiency, electric is a clear winner. With electric cooking, over 80% of the heat generated is transferred to cooking compared with just 60% for gas as around 40% of the heat is lost to its surroundings. What is more is that the fuel cost for electric is around 50% less than for gas, depending on your supplier. Most of the Neff electric ovens have an energy efficiency rating of A, saving energy and money.
Because less of the heat generated by an electric oven gets released into the surrounding area, the kitchen can remain at a nice even temperature whilst cooking with electric. What people often find with a gas oven is that as soon as they start to cook with gas, the kitchen becomes very stuffy and overheated- evidence of the amountof heat being lost by gas ovens. An electric oven will also generally produce less soot and less grease than a gas oven. Because the Neff electric ovens are made of stainless steel, they are easy to clean. Even though less grease and oil is produced there is still some, but they are not difficult to maintain.
Neff’s B1664 model is a series six Neff electric oven and has all the features than Neff has to offer built in to it. I am being swayed towards cooking with electric- in an oven that is. I still prefer to use gas on the hob probably just because that is what I am used to, but also because of its controllability and instant heat. But using an electric oven does seem like a far cleaner and more energy efficient way to cook and bake and the whole of the oven is heated to the same temperature unlike in a gas oven where the heat tends to be higher in one side of the oven compared to the other.
